Acanthus

Meet the Acanthus Edge Profile, which is redefining style, courtesy of 3 Spark Design. One of the most complex and difficult geometries to master, Acanthus is a welcome challenge for our team in a world full of copycats.

We were so enamored with this classic motif that dates to the Greek architectural tradition that we purchased several texts on creating and proportioning this amazing detail.

The acanthus leaf can be used in many ways, and we identified the acanthus scroll form as particularly beautiful and applicable for an edge profile. We learned the particulars of ribs, lobes, eyes, veins, and so much more.

This design centers around a classically formed Italian scroll or volute with an added twist at the end. Its soft and flowing detail captures the essence of the acanthus form through its many manifestations.
